Green Peas Gravy

Ingredients:

  • Dry green peas - 1 cup (soaked for 8 hours)

  • Onion - 1 (med)

  • Tomato - 1 (med)

  • Ginger - 1/4″

  • Garlic Paste - ½ tsp

  • Chilli powder - 1 tsp

  • Coriander Powder - 1 tsp

  • Jeera Powder - ½ tsp

  • Garam Masala - ½ tsp

  • Amchoor Powder - ½ tsp

  • Turmeric Powder - ½ tsp

  • Coriander leaves - ¼ cup (finely chopped)

  • Tomato Paste - 1 tbsp

  • Cumin - ½ tsp

  • Cinnamon Stick - 1/2″

  • Cloves - 1

  • Star Anise - 1

Directions:

  1. Heat a pressure cooker with oil. Add cumin seeds, cinnamon, cloves and star anise. Let it splutter.

  2. Add minced ginger and garlic. Saute for 2 mins.

  3. Add onions. Saute till they turn transparent.

  4. Add tomatoes and saute them till they become soft.

  5. Add turmeric, chilli, coriander, cumin and amchoor powder. Mix well.

  6. Add the soaked dry green peas, chopped coriander leaves and salt. Mix well.

  7. Add the required amount of water and pressure cook for 4 to 5 whistles. (Sometimes it may need more whistles, however be cautious not to over cook)

  8. Once the pressure is released, open the pressure cooker, add tomato paste and garam masala. Add if more water if needed to get the right consistency. Boil the gravy for 6 to 8 mins.

  9. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
