Kadalai Paruppu Biryani (கடலை பருப்பு பிரியாணி)

Ingredients -

  • Basmati rice - 1 cup (soaked for 30 mins)

  • Kadalai paruppu - 1/4 cup (cooked al dente)

  • Onion - 1 med

  • Tomatoes - 2 nos

  • Mint leaves - Few

  • Coriander leaves - Few

  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp

  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp

  • Ginger garlic paste - 2 tsp

  • Yogurt - 1/4 cup

  • Lemon - Juice of 1/2 lemon

  • Cinnamon - 1 " stick

  • Cloves - 2 nos

  • Cardamom - 2 nos

  • Bay leaf - 1 no

Direction -

  1. Heat oil and ghee. Add the spices.

  2. Add onion and turmeric powder. Saute for 2 to 3 mins.

  3. Add ginger garlic paste, mint, coriander leaves, and mix well.

  4. Add chili powder and cooked kadalai paruppu. Mix well.

  5. Add chopped and cubed tomatoes. Cook until they get mushy.

  6. Add salt, beaten yogurt and lemon juice. Mix well.

  7. Add 2 cups of hot water. Add soaked rice.

  8. Cook on high pressure for 6 mins and immediately release or cook on low flame for 12 mins without whistle. After 12 mins, turn off the flame. Add the whistle. Let it sit for 10 mins.
